Petition to Pope Francis for the protection of children!
Bruges, 28 December 2015, Feast of the Holy Innocents
The survival of the diocese of Bruges is at stake, because the actual situation in the diocese of Bruges is without prospect. Therefore, we respectfully address to Your Holiness to express our concerns and hopes regarding the future of the diocese of Bruges.
The diocese of Bruges urgently needs to be purified. Now Msgr. Jozef De Kesel has been appointed as Archbishop of Malines-Brussels and now Koen Vanhoutte is chosen as diocesan administrator, the situation of the diocese of Bruges from 2010 until now evolved from absolutely critical to truly dramatic.
Koen Vanhoutte, vicar general of the diocese, president of the Major Seminary and mainstay of Msgr. De Kesel during his episcopate in Bruges (and formerly of the discredited Bishop Roger Vangheluwe), is involved in all cases of sexual abuse and abuse of power in which the diocese of Bruges recently came in heavy weather.
This outright unhealthy concentration of power in the hands of Koen Vanhoutte has led to the mentioned dramatic situation. Bishop De Kesel has not tackled the files of sexual abuse and intimidating behavior properly and decisively enough. In the diocese of Bruges there is a serious power problem and for many years there are terrible abuses in the Major Seminary.
Obviously, the administrator hopes to be appointed bishop soon so that he can continue the culture of silence, and his policy of intimidation and abuse of power. Vanhoutte himself therefore has every interest in ensuring that nothing changes in the diocese of Bruges. Vanhoutte wants hush up all matters . What dark secrets has this man to hide? Also the figures that have their function or post or benefits directly or indirectly, owed to him, of course, hope that the ball remains in their patron’s courts for many years. Including those who remain on the sidelines with his approval and support – far from the merciless spotlight of the public prosecutor and the media – obviously remain loyal to him obviously.
To get the Diocese of Bruges out of this deadlock a cleansing operation is urgently needed. This means in practice that the diocese can no longer be dominated and controlled by people who were already involved in the discredited policy team of Msgr. Roger Vangheluwe and Msgr. Jozef De Kesel. A naive De Kesel confirmed the vicars of Vangheluwe in their functions and attracted a few figures about whom serious questions should be raised. The scandals therefore were bound to come. One skeleton after another fell out of the closet. In short, the Diocese of Bruges is in the worst crisis since its inception.
This state of emergency can only be dealt with in substance if the Holy See is aware of the seriousness of the matter and appoints an apostolic visitator.
The visitor must be objective and unbiasedly screen the diocese and report to the different departments of the Holy See. Pro Familia is willing to put together a task force with reliable and competent people to assist the visitator in his task as intensively as possible and to work with him to give the diocese of Bruges new chances of survival and thus to restore the credibility of the Church. Only then the Church can again be a good instrument for the proclamation of God's Love, also in the diocese of Bruges.
Today, not coincidentally on the Feast of the Holy Innocents, Pro Familia starts a petition. This petition is addressed to Pope Francis and it urges for an apostolic visitation of the diocese of Bruges.
